Pure Love for Paint

My eyes welled up tight with tears

I felt it all in my face, my neck, my throat

Raw emotion rose right to the top

This was all happening on the Expressive Arts Teacher Training zoom call-

We were asked the question,  “What do we love about this work?”

And to not try to explain it, but to just feel it.

Deep breath…

Wow-

I didn’t really expect all of this to come up

Plus, I could see myself crying on the screen

So that made it even more… visible

I couldn’t even come up with the words for a few seconds

And then a few words came out…

I just love

The way the paint looks

On the brush

When you first dip it in the color

And then put it on the paper

I feel like a child

With so much

Curiosity

And not knowing

What it will look like

When the mark is made

And then you see it

Color

Bright, fresh, pure

Everything is changed in an instant

With one move of your hand

And it’s there- that mark- you made it

And you don’t even know

What you are doing

And it just feels good

Because you don’t HAVE to know

You just follow

There is no where to go

And no where to be

You just follow

The color, the movement, the feeling

The head starts to talk

And you go back to the work

(It keeps the head quiet)

And you suddenly feel free

And you remember who you are.

So, that’s what I love about this work.
